Dentures and the dog

That’s not a misprint you’re reading.  It wasn’t supposed to say, “Adventures and the Dog”.  It really is “Dentures and the Dog”.  Are images of a cute adorable pup putting in a set of false teeth being conjured up in your brain?

As funny as that image may be, the title refers to the time my husband left his dentures, folded up in a napkin, and set them on the nightstand.  It never occurred to him, that our youngest dog, might mistake that napkin for evil.

Evil?  A napkin?  You must understand, my dog is a strange duck, to say the least.  He holds this belief that all paper, in any form is evil.  With all paper being evil, he has designated himself to be the “Paper Punisher”.  With my self-appointed, paper-punishing pup, it was only natural to assume the harmless, denture-enclosing napkin, must be stricken from the home, for our protection.  So he did what the Paper Punisher would do.  He shredded and ate the napkin, and its contents.

At the time, I thought my husband was going to drive the dog to the shelter and surrender him.  To say he was angry was an understatement.  After all, my dog, not his, just ate some very expensive dental equipment.  It didn’t help that I placed the blame on him because he’s the adult and should have put his dentures out of the child’s, I mean dog’s reach”.  They are just like children; toddlers to be exact.  They get into everything and nothing is safe.

Things we go through as grown-ups.
