When I moved into my new house over 12 years ago, a neighbor was having a yard sale as he was moving out of the country. Little did I know, the $20 I spent on three baking dishes would begin a collection that continues to this day: Le Creuset.
It turns out that two of the three baking dishes I had purchased contained two Le Creuset pieces. My research on this French cooking line began. I admit, sticker shock took center stage for a brief period in time. I couldn’t believe the amazing deal I had scored. I loved how easily the ceramic baking dishes cleaned up and I learned they had a lifetime warranty on them as well. Let’s not forget the gorgeous colors Le Creuset has to offer. From pastels to bold it’s definitely something to behold.
As time went on, I purchased a stainless steel cooking set. I stopped using all non-stick pans and only used the stainless steel, cast iron, or Le Creuset. What I liked about the Le Creuset items were their functionality from going from the stovetop, to the oven, and finally to the table.
I normally buy my Le Creuset on clearance or on sale. Some stores, if you return an item, even if brand new, goes on the clearance rack. Always look at the clearance section. Deals are hiding there just waiting to be discovered. This past year, I added five new pots to my collection.

Yes, it’s a lot. I admit, I misjudged the size on one of the orders and it turned out to be a 7-quart chef’s pot. However, even though we are just a family of three, I am ready to cook for any block party or social event that comes my way.
My two pride an joy pieces are the *Enameled Cast Iron Signature Round Sauteuse in the 3.5 quart size. Mine is in the “Sea Salt” color which is a sea green color. The other favorite is the *Buffet Casserole with glass lid, also 3.5 quart size, in the peche color.
The pans live on my stove because I use them that much. The size is great for our family of three. I make steamed rice and mashed potatoes in the sauteuse all the time. The buffet casserole pan is great for frying meat, making tacos, Spanish rice, etc. Both pans are enameled cast iron. Braising and searing meats has never been easier. Both pans are able to go into the oven, even with a glass lid. Perfect for pan-seared pork chops or a small roast.
I am transitioning all my pots and pans to the Le Creuset line. They even have a great non-stick line. While I am not a huge fan of non-stick products, these are well made and when making caramel and the like, non-stick is really what you want to use.
I did mention sticker shock. As with any quality product, you get what you pay for. I regret nothing when it comes to these pans. Some ways to save a little money on them is to look at thrift stores (yes, have seen them there), clearance sections, and outlet stores. The outlet stores tend to have sales and they aren’t the newest colors or “this season”, so there are savings to be had. Additionally, if several sites, like Amazon, will have delayed payment options through Affirm or other payment-plan companies.
If you want quality cookware and bakeware or need a nice wedding or housewarming gift, Le Creuset is a great company that won’t you stir you wrong.
